Professor Agness Sirima
Professor Agness Sirima, a renowned academician and leader, has embarked on an exciting new journey in her career. She has been appointed as the new Principal of the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism, serving from 2023 to 2026. Her appointment follows her previous role as the acting college principal at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism where she took over from Prof. Suzana Augustino, who transferred to Nelson Mandela University to serve as deputy vice chancellor.

Before becoming the acting principal, Prof. Sirima served as the head of the Department of Tourism and Recreation, a position now held by Prof. John Mgonja. Her dedication to her duties as a researcher and educator has earned her a promotion to associate professor by October 2023. She has also published a paper on the benefits of tourism growth in Northern Tanzania to peoples livelihoods with the title “Impacts of Tourism Destination Development on Residents’ Livelihoods in Northern Tanzania“, showcasing her commitment to academic excellence and leadership.

As a female academician and a leader, Prof. Sirima serves as an inspiration to younger female scientists in Tanzania, demonstrating that it is possible to reach the highest levels of achievement in both academia and leadership. Her appointment as the leader of the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism is a testament to her outstanding performance and dedication to her field of Tourism and recreation.

Dr. Charles Kilawe, an accomplished researcher and leader, has been appointed as the deputy principal of the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism for the second time. He also serves as the head of the Department of Ecosystem and Conservation for two consecutive periods. His unique abilities extend beyond his role as a leader, as he consistently performs his duties both in and out of the office.

Dr. Kilawe’s research performance has been exceptional, resulting in him receiving an award for the best publication at Sokoine University of Agriculture between 2022 and 2023. His work in forest ecology has motivated many young researchers to produce impactful research work for the benefit of Tanzania and the world at large.

He currently published on the Factors influencing community’s adoption of domestic water conservation measures in Moshi Rural District, Tanzania along side other many great works that has been of great help in protecting forest resources in Tanzania from fire hazards and protection of forest endangered species
The College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism is fortunate to have such amazing leaders at the helm, driving excellence and positive change through their expertise and dedication.
