It has been stated that the PhD in Forestry under the (REFOREST) Project offered by Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) under the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism is unique and will produce skilled graduates in the forestry sector, helping to conserve and protect forests, especially in countries located in Southern Sahara. This was mentioned on June 13, 2024, by the Director of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Technology Transfer and Professional Advisory, Prof. Josephat Kashaigili, during the opening of a workshop for presenting research results to PhD students from SUA.
Prof. Kashaigili noted that these skilled scientists in the forestry sector, in addition to receiving training, have also conducted research in their countries, and this approach aimed to enhance quality and increase the number of scientists capable of conducting research, enabling graduates in the Sahara region to collaborate in forest conservation.
