Forestry and environmental conservation experts from Russia visit SUA.

Forestry and environmental conservation experts from St. Petersburg University, Russia, have visited Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) with the aim of strengthening scientific, educational, and technological relations between Tanzania and Russia in the forestry sector.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maulid Mwatawala, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, speaking during the reception of the delegation, stated that they expect this collaboration to be beneficial, especially for students and academics, as it will provide opportunities for exchange of knowledge between the two countries.

The host of the delegation, Principal of the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism, Prof. Agnes Sirima, mentioned that the visit focuses on exploring areas of cooperation in the forestry sector, particularly in research, forestry technologies, and increasing expertise in this critical sector.

She noted that through this collaboration, SUA has the opportunity to exchange experts, students, and teachers, as well as sharing various forestry technologies and methods for processing forest products. “The delegation came so we can identify areas where we can collaborate. We aim to work together in improving our teaching, processing of forest products, and adding value to timber,” said Prof. Sirima.”
