Sokoine University of Agriculture, in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University of Denmark; University of Nairobi and International Livestock Research Institute of Kenya is undertaking a DANIDA funded research project titled “Climate influence on zoonoses at human-livestockwildlife interfaces in the transboundary region between Kenya and Tanzania (ENHANCE)”.
The project aims to gain a deeper understanding of the close interconnection between wildlife, humans, livestock, and the environment in facilitating the transmission of various pathogens from animals to humans at unique, shared interfaces among humans, livestock, and wildlife. The project will produce invaluable evidence to aid in the prevention, preparedness, and response to zoonotic threats.
Sokoine University of Agriculture invites interested and qualified individuals, holding MSc degree to submit their applications for 1 PhD position. The successful candidate will be enrolled at the Sokoine University of Agriculture and supervised by a joint team from the Sokoine University of Agriculture, and University of Copenhagen. The candidate will be a fully integral part of the ENHANCE research team and will receive a monthly stipend throughout the valid PhD period, tuition fee paid directly to the enrolled university and all costs related PhD research.
The position is of a maximum of 3 years duration, and will commence by 1st February, 2024. The successful PhD candidate will contribute to the overall research objectives of the ENHANCE project.
Eligibility
Successful candidate is required to:
- Hold a bachelor degree in veterinary medicine and master degree related to veterinary medicine.
- Be highly motivated to develop a scientific career.
- Possess and demonstrate good scientific writing skills.
- Have a strong methodological and conceptual background in relevant scientific disciplines.
- Be a constructive and engaged team worker.
Applicants should not be older than 35 years for males and 40 years for females at the time of application.
Application Process: Potential applicants are invited to prepare a 2–3-page concept note (maximum 1,500 words) that outlines the more detailed focus of the proposed PhD project and its research questions, in relation to the PhD focus.
