PhD position – forestry

There is one available position as PhD fellow in forestry at the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, campus Evenstad.

We are searching for a candidate with strong quantitative skills, who is eager to undertake a scientific training and to develop both professionally and personally. The project’s objective is to develop next generation models of the Norwegian and European forest sectors. These models encompass forest growth and yields, timber supply and owner attitudes, biodiversity, industrial processing and consumption of wood products and trade as well as greenhouse gas fluxes and are very suitable to evaluate a range of policy, economic and environmental aspects of the forest sector. The project may be adapted to the interests and skills of the successful candidate.

The candidate will work in close collaboration with other scientists in the research group, and is expected to contribute to the scientific-social milieu at the department. We encourage students to take stays abroad and to disseminate findings to the public.

 

Qualifications and personal skills

Desired experience

  • Master in forestry or other relevant discipline, like economics, natural sciences, mathematics or statistics, preferably with an interest for interdisciplinary research.
  •  Collaborative with the ability to develop network and cooperate with others and at the same being capable of working independently.
  • Results-oriented and with a strong motivation for successfully carry out a PhD
  •  Experience in doing research and publishing papers counts positively
  •  Documented work in modeling is a strong advantage, in particular simulations and/or linear programming/optimization.
  • Skilled in softwares like R, GAMS, Julia, JUMP or others relevant softwares is likewise a strong advantage
  • Oral and written fluency in English

Personal Skills

  • Ability to work independently and purposely
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to assume different roles which require collaboration with supervisors, other PhD students, masters students, bachelors students and other collaborators.
  • Interest in learning new skills, programs and in thinking about science in new ways.
