Applications are now open for the Tanzania Forest Fund.
The priority of grant funding this year will be projects directly related to planting trees in the arid regions and projects related to the development of the beekeeping sub-sector.
Primary and secondary schools from 18 districts of 8 arid regions, will be considered for funding for the establishment of tree nurseries and participation in planting of trees in their areas.
Successful schools will be expected to provide subsidies and enthusiasm for tree planting in neighboring schools and villages.
Tanzania Fund for Tree Planting and Beekeeping – Priority Areas
The Tanzania Forestry Fund will provide grants in three priority areas such as follows: Conservation, management and development of forest resources.
Priority in delivery Grants for this year are projects related to:
- Establishment of tree nurseries in schools and tree planting in primary schools and secondary and surrounding villages.
- Establishment of small plantations (woodlots). Grants will be distributed to all regions of mainland Tanzania except Iringa, Mbeya, Njombe, Pwani and Dar es Salaam.
- Improving the livelihoods of communities living along forest reserves, in particular beekeeping-related projects aimed at forest conservation.
Places that The grants considered are:
- Improving the conservation of natural forests through beekeeping in Lindi Regions, Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa, Tabora, Shinyanga, Kigoma and Katavi. Targeted here are the beekeeping groups that will also be trained making better bee hives. Women and youth groups will be given priority.
- Establishment of collection centers for honey and other bee products in regions of Katavi, Rukwa, Geita, Tabora, Kigoma, Singida, Lindi, Mbeya, and Songwe.
The beneficiaries here are Government Institutions including TFS and Councils of Districts.
- Forest and Beekeeping Research aimed at improving conservation, management, development and Sustainable use of forest and beekeeping resources and adding value to crops forests and bees will be considered subsidized.
Research projects funded should be based on the National Strategic Plan for Forest Research (National Forest Research Master Plan) and the National Comprehensive Livestock Research Plan Bees (National Beekeeping Research Master Plan).
Tanzania Fund for Tree Planting and Beekeeping – Type of Grants
The Tanzania Forestry Fund provides three types of grants which are as follows:
- Subsidies: amount not exceeding five million Tanzanian Shillings (5M TZS). A small grant will be given to primary and secondary schools from the 18 districts of the 8 regions. The grant will not be given to companies and individuals. In addition, Scholars studying for a Masters Degree and Postgraduate (PhD) may apply for a small grant as individuals for implement research projects in forests and beekeeping related to the literature research of their studies.
- Medium Grant: amount in excess of TZS five (5) million but not exceeding TZS million 20. This grant shall be made to the stakeholders mentioned in item no. 3 except school primary and secondary.
- Major Grant: amount in excess of TZS 20 million but not exceeding TZS million 50. This grant shall be given to the stakeholders mentioned in item no. 3 except school primary and secondary.
Tanzania Fund for Tree Planting and Beekeeping – Eligibility Criteria
- Documentation of grant application projects provided by the Tanzania Forestry Fund are welcome from social groups; non-governmental organizations involved in conservation, management and development of forest resources; religious communities / institutions; organization / institution training; primary and secondary schools; research institutes;
- Government Departments and Agencies; Local Government Authorities and other Government Institutions.
Grant applicants should be carry out activities related to forest conservation and management, beekeeping, and development of forest resources in the regions of Tanzania.
- In addition, all groups / organizations / institutions that will submit project documents for applying for grants must be registered with legally recognized authorities.
- Copies of documents (certificates of registration) confirming the registration of the relevant groups / organizations / institutions should be attached on project texts.
