Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima has asked Forestry Experts from the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to encourage the implementation of the maintenance and development of forests in the country for the benefit of current and future generations.
He noted this on October 3, 2024 when closing the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism at SUA where he said what they should do is continue to provide education to the community to help them gain an understanding of the importance of forest conservation in all areas for enabling the next generation to benefit from forests and the environment in general.
In addition, Malima has said that experts from SUA should inform the community about the effects of forest destruction, which is largely caused by human activities, including burning charcoal, cutting wood and agricultural activities, especially in areas on the outskirts of cities.
On his part Mrs. Metrida Kaijage, a Legal Expert from SUA, has said that experts have the responsibility to draft bills and send them to the Government to encourage the proper use of forest resources, but she has also asked Institutions like SUA to find stakeholders who will cooperate in the coordination of forest conservation.
“I hope from the experts from SUA you will continue to do productive research related to forests, including the right ways to solve global challenges that affect forests and their crops as well as scientific research on forests”, said Mrs. Metrida Kaijage.
And Prof. August Temu, who is also an expert Forestry expert from SUA, has said that he sees Tanzania continuing to do well in the management of Forests as SUA continues to produce many forestry experts who will become leaders in the management of Forests and its resources for the great benefit of society and the generation of tomorrow.
“In the next 50 years, I see Tanzania reaching the stage of countries like Finland and China that use forest products well because in those countries every forest product is used in raw material production industries , which are used to raise the country’s economy, so I believe Tanzania will reach that stage if only people will be able to take care of forests fully”, said Prof. Term
On her part, Agnes Sirima who is the principal of the college of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism , said that the college is determined to develop a center of excellence in forestry which is under SUA with the aim of increasing community awareness in relation to Forests but also for self-development for Employees who are in the Forestry sector.
In addition, he added that they expect to increase the cooperation between SUA and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism with all its institutions in order to develop the forestry profession in the country but also to increase the scope of practical training for students as well as to ensure that the researches carried out by SUA reach the community and improve operational policies forestry sector in the country.
