Prof. Mwatawala made this call on April 28, 2023 while speaking to innovators from SUA at the Innovation Week 2023 exhibition being held at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
He said that innovation happens at different levels, from ordinary citizens to vocational training centers and universities. Therefore, the expectations of many citizens are to get better results from innovations from higher learning institutions.
“We need to go to a higher level of innovation, for example, if someone designs a fabric, they should ensure that the mix of raw materials such as cotton and silk in the fabric can help someone know when the fabric can be worn,” said Prof. Mwatawala.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Iringa Mjini, Hon. Jesca Msambatavangu, who had the opportunity to visit SUA’s booth, congratulated the researchers at the university for their excellent work.

Sokoine University of Agriculture has conducted various studies in Iringa region, including research to control the outbreak of rats that were causing 100 percent losses by eating farmers’ crops in various areas such as Uyole, Mkungugu, Isimani, and Izazi.”
