The Race to Zero is a global campaign that aims to mobilize leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors, and other non-state actors to achieve a healthy, resilient, zero-carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.
The campaign mobilizes a coalition of leading net-zero initiatives, representing over 11,000 non-state actors, including companies, financial institutions, cities, states and regions, educational institutions, and healthcare institutions. The objective is to build momentum around the shift to a decarbonized economy and to send a resounding signal to governments that non-state actors are united in meeting the Paris goals and creating a more inclusive and resilient economy.
The campaign is led by the High-Level Champions and is part of the Climate Ambition Alliance, which was launched at the UNSG’s Climate Action Summit 2019 by the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera. The Race to Zero aims to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net-zero as soon as possible, and by 2050 at the latest. The campaign has mobilized a large number of non-state actors, making it the largest-ever alliance committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
More than 600 Higher Institutions around the globe, including six UNICA members, have joined Race to Zero, a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.
