New PhD at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism – Dr. Greyson Z. Nyamoga

Dr. Greyson Z. Nyamoga is a Lecturer and Researcher with about ten years of teaching experience in the Department of Forest and Environmental Economics at Sokoine University of Agriculture. During this time, Greyson has been working on issues related to Forest Economics, Natural Resources Management and Community Based Natural Resources Management in Tanzania. Dr. Nyamoga spent six months at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences as an EPINAV exchange students in 2013 which led to his PhD Scholarship from September 2014. Dr. Nyamoga did his Master studies in Forest Economics at Sokoine University of Agriculture and he was also awarded another Masters in Sustainable Development Practices (MDP) at the University of Florida in the US. While pursuing his Master studies in the US, he spent a total of about 6 months in Botswana working with communities in Sankuyo and Shorobe Villages helping them in issues related to Community Based Natural Resources Management and in developing management plans for Wildlife Management. Greyson has conducted several consultant works with the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) from UK and Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (TCCIA) on issues related to natural resources management, governance, gender, economic empowerment and forest products value chain analysis in Tanzania. Greyson has supervised more than 16 undergraduate students in their research projects.  He speaks fluent English, Swahili, Hehe, Kinga and currently learning Norwegian.

Dr Nyamoga did his PhD in Forest Economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås – Arkeshus, Norway. His PhD focuses on developing a Forest Sector Model for Tanzania which will be used for forecasting both demand and supply of the forest products as well as technological improvements and their environmental implications. 

He successful defended his PhD Thesis on 23.08.2019 and the Title of his Thesis is: “Analyzing aspects of land-use sustainability in Tanzania: Current forest degradation, urban charcoal demand, and impacts of future firewood and charcoal consumption”.
