Sokoine University of Agriculture, through its researchers, has launched an assessment of carbon revenue as a sustainable financial empowerment method for the conservation and management of community forests in Tanzania. The aim of this project is to explore how carbon revenue can financially support the management and conservation of community forests that are not designated for harvesting.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic, Prof. Maulid Mwatawala, while opening the workshop held in Dodoma, stated that through carbon revenue, SUA intends to continue managing forests without causing harm, which will help generate income for individuals and the community as a whole.
Dr. Kajenje Magessa, a Senior Lecturer from Department of Forest Resource Assessment and Management at SUA and the Chief Project Leader, highlighted that the project’s goal is to examine how residents living in forest-surrounded areas (Katavi, Tanga, Morogoro, Manyara, and Kilimanjaro) can conserve the forests themselves without causing harm and also enable them to generate income and prevent climate change.
