The results of curriculum changes at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) have significantly improved the quality of practical training, leading to quicker employment opportunities. By selecting and teaching subjects that empower students to become self-employed and navigate the job market effectively, SUA has improved its overall quality.
Recently, during a discussion on practical training for the Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management, Professor John Mgonja, The Head of the Department of Tourism and Recreation at SUA, highlighted that SUA students are more employable compared to students from other institutions. He attributed this to the emphasis on work ethics, dedication, and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge practically. SUA provides practical training opportunities, which contributes to students’ readiness for the job market.
Professor Mgonja also emphasized the importance of choosing courses related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Through curriculum adjustments, SUA ensures that students are well-prepared for employment by aligning their education with industry needs. The OSHA course, for instance, equips students with essential skills for workplace safety.
Dr. Ernest Mwamwaja, a lecturer in the same department, praised SUA students for their creativity and innovation during practical training. He assured parents and guardians that students studying Tourism and Recreation for three years would be well-prepared for high-quality work.
Mr. Mbonea Mweta, a representative from the Department of Forest Engineering and Wood Science, highlighted that seminars play a crucial role in addressing challenges. After participating in these seminars, it became evident that SUA excels in practical training. The current focus is on promoting SUA’s achievements to showcase the impactful work done by students.
