Work for the benefit of the institution – Prof. Mahonge

All employees at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) have been asked to work for the benefit of the institution because the development of the country and their economic needs depend on the existence of the institution.

Speaking to employees at the Mazumbai Campus in Tanga, the Chairman of the Ethics Committee (KKU-SUA), Prof. Christopher Mahonge, said that for a country to develop, it needs employees who are dedicated to their work, adhere to ethical standards, and avoid corruption. He emphasized the importance of good governance, which includes integrity, accountability, transparency, rule of law, impartiality, participation, and avoidance of corruption. He also stressed the need for employees to be involved in decision-making and to provide advice to leaders in their areas of expertise to avoid mistakes.

Prof. Christopher Mahonge, a visiting lecturer (at the middle) at the University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (KKU-SUA), recently participated in a seminar at the Mazumbai Campus in Tanga. “Accountability is a very important pillar. There are things we measure in terms of accountability, such as the responsibilities I am given, how I fulfill them to achieve the goals I have been given, because everyone has goals. Therefore, accountability is very important,” said Prof. Mahonge.Regarding involvement in the workplace, Prof. Mahonge emphasized the importance of involving professionals in their respective areas to advise leaders, rather than leaders making decisions on their own, as they may make mistakes due to lack of expertise in certain areas. He stressed the need for professionals to be involved in decision-making and to provide advice to leaders in their areas of expertise to avoid mistakes
