Sarafina Masanja is a Forest Officer at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania. She holds M.Sc. in Ecosystems Science and Management and B.Sc. Forestry from SUA. With a passion for ecosystems conservation, biodiversity and climate change adaptation, she has gained extensive expertise in forest management, carbon emissions assessment and greenhouse gas inventory management, supporting various conservation efforts. Throughout her career, she has developed a wide range of skills through specialized training programs, including GIS and Remote Sensing for natural resource management, Bibliometric analysis for scientific research and advanced data analysis using tools like R, IPCC Inventory software, Ex-Ante Carbon-balance Tool (EX-ACT), JASP and SPSS.
Sarafina has contributed significantly to research projects, most notably as a Researcher for the National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC) and the European Union-funded project on biodiversity monitoring and conservation in Tanzania. In recognition of her achievements, she received the prestigious New Phytologist Award as a Best Poster Presenter at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2024. She also continues to play an active role in academia and professional organizations, as a member of the Tanzania Association of Foresters (TAF) and various university committees.
