About
The Tanzania Journal of Forestry and Nature Conservation accommodates the current diverse and multidisciplinary approaches towards ecosystem conservation, at national and global levels. To be published biannually, the Journal will accept research and review papers covering the technological, physical, biological, social and economic aspects of management and conservation of Tropical flora and fauna and other natural resources in general.

Author Guidelines
Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate to the Editor in Chief using the same address as that of the Dean and the following address email addresses: iddisaid@yahoo.com and iddisaid@suanet.ac.tz. Authors are advised to check with the latest issue of the Journal for the style of presentation. Five copies of reprints shall be made available free of charge to the first author. Extra copies can be purchased at a price of US $ 35.00 for 15 reprints.

Details for Authors:

Title page
The title page should contain the title of the paper, a condensed running head of less than 50 letters or spaces, names -starting with surname, institutional affiliation and mailing address of author/s and the e-mail address of the corresponding author.  The title should be as brief as clarity permits, centred and in uppercase.

Abstract
This should be a summary of the background, main discussions, conclusion and recommendations.  The maximum allowed is 200 words.  The abstract should be followed by not more than 10 key words that are carefully selected.  The key words should be separated by hyphens.

Main text
Structure the paper into logical sections which, in the case of a research paper, should include the introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusions.

Style

Justification and font
All text should be fully justified.  Use Roman font 12 for the text as well as the main text.

Title and subtitles
All titles are to be left justified, capitalized and bold.  Sub-titles should be left justified, bold and not capitalized.

Paragraphs
Do not indent for paragraphs.  Skip a line instead.
Spelling check
Use the United Kingdom English dictionary.

Layout
Use size A4, white bond, 80 mg paper.  Maintain a one-inch margin on all sides of the paper and a double space throughout the text.  Page number should be centred at the bottom of the page.

Tables
While preparing tables keep in mind the size of the printed page.  Tables should be supplied on separate sheets.  All tables should be numbered and referred to in the text in a consecutive order.  All titles should be placed on the top of the table, immediately following the number.  Legends to tables should be typed on a separate sheet.  Capitalize only the first letter of the title. Do not bold.

Illustrations (e.g., figures, diagrams, charts)
All illustrations should be numbered and referred to in the text in a consecutive order.  Titles should be placed below the illustrations, immediately after the number.  Each illustration should be submitted on a separate sheet.  The number of the figure or photo and the name of the author/s should be written on the backside for identification purposes.  Photographs should be of good quality and printed on glossy paper.  The titles of the figures should be supplied on a separate sheet.  Capitalize only the first letter of the title.  Do not bold. Do not use color.
The authors should give an approximate position of illustrations and tables in the margin of the text.

References
Reference in the text should be “… (Kwesiga and Mwanza 1994, Makonda et al. 1998)” at the end of the statement or “Kelly (1977) also found that …” at the beginning.  All authors referred to in the text should appear in the list of references in alphabetical order. Distinguish between 1) journals, 2) books, 3) a book chapter and 4) conference proceedings.  The following can serve as an example for these different cases:

Submission
Submit initially three copies of the manuscript, one being the original. The Tanzania Journal of Forestry and Nature Conservation has no page charges.

Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
1.    The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2.    The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
3.    Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
4.    The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
5.    The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
6.    If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Peer Review Process
Three hard copies of the manuscript, one being the original are submitted to the Chief Editor or the Dean Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation following the details stipulated in the notes to Authors. The manuscript is assessed for suitability for publication in the TJFNC by the Chief Editor and the Editorial Board If the manuscript is found suitable it is sent to two external reviewers selected on the basis of the subject matter of the submitted manuscript. We anticipate the reviewers to work on the manuscript within two to three weeks. On receipt of reviewer comments the manuscripts is sent back to the author(s) for incorporation of the reviewer comments expected to be completed within 1 month. After incorporation of the comments the author(s) will submit two hard copies together with an electronic copy either in diskette, compact disc or email attachment to the Chief Editor or the Dean Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation. The corrected version of the manuscript is then checked for completeness and errors by members of the editorial board to ensure that authors have incorporated all the reviewer comments and any needed clarifications. The chief editor will then make final checks on each manuscript and frequently request clarifications from authors where deems necessary before the manuscripts are type set ready for publishing. After typesetting the manuscripts are sent the corresponding author for proof reading before being sent to the publisher
