Nurturing Future Conservation Leaders

In a symbolic and inspiring event held at the office of the Head of the Department of Wildlife Management, student leaders of the 2024 Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management final-year cohort were awarded certificates of appreciation. These students had demonstrated exemplary leadership during their field practical training across various protected areas in Tanzania. The practical training took place in some of Tanzania’s most iconic conservation areas, providing the students with hands-on experience in wildlife management. The student leaders played a pivotal role in guiding their peers, ensuring the success of the field exercises and fostering teamwork in diverse and challenging environments.

The event recognized not only their invaluable contributions in coordinating fieldwork activities but also the department’s commitment to nurturing leadership skills among its students. By entrusting leadership roles to the students during their attachment, the department reinforced its dual mission: imparting knowledge and fostering the development of future leaders ready to address conservation challenges.

Prof. Alfan A. Rija who is the Head of the Department, commended the student leaders for their dedication and leadership, emphasizing that their efforts had not gone unnoticed. “This event underscores our department’s vision of producing graduates who not only excel academically but are also well-prepared to lead in addressing conservation challenges both locally and globally,” the Head remarked.

The department expressed its heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to the student leaders as they prepare for future roles in the conservation landscape. This recognition serves as a testament to the department’s dedication to cultivating a generation of professionals who will take bold steps in protecting Tanzania’s natural heritage and beyond.
